I had a call from a friend the other day…where could he get a boot that filled with water as he had a sore foot? I’d never heard of such a thing, maybe someone after writing this will enlighten me! Upon further investigation it turned out he’d been running a lot and in order to stop any possible inflammation in the foot fascia (plantar fasciitis) I asked him to try rolling a bottle of water that had been frozen under said foot.

I listened to Dr Sarah Jarvis talking on Jeremy Vine’s Radio 2 show the other week making some interesting points regarding plantar fasciitis and possible steroid injections. I have since met a patient who had great success with cortisone, although was very almost ejected from swearing at its excruciating painfulness!

What she failed to go into detail of was how beneficial soft tissue work can be, not only for the soreness in the foot fascia/arches but also for the underlying calf tightness which so often has led to the problem in the first place. I have probably seen 3/4 cases this year which have been eased in one treatment.

So having screamed at the radio and murmured to her about it on Twitter, what I would say to anyone with pain In the bottom of their foot is to stop searching for the wonder boot and get it massaged out, it could be the kindest thing you do for your sole!
