To ‘mark’ 21 years in bodywork let me introduce you to the one and only Mark Cox, someone I have known for the majority of that time. I have worked with many triathletes, each of them unique in their own way.

I’ve never understood the 5am club. No-one should see two 5 o’clocks in the day, unless they’re on the red eye! When I first met Mark I was astounded by how he would get up at 4.30am to run, shower and get to work for 6.30am. He was a Triathlete, and he would rather train before work than after. We all have an optimal time to exercise and he did have three disciplines to fit in!

It has become very clear over the last few years that you can tell a lot about someone by the tension they hold. Mark held his eagerness in his soft tissues. His calves were rock solid and fairly hard to infiltrate. I was never sure I was getting in there enough. But the tissue wouldn’t let me. It was hard work but he kept coming back.

When I asked an associate who was heavier handed than me to cover, his tissue seized up and became bruised when massaged. I realised then that I was the right person for the job.

Decades later he’s still doing Ironman events in obscure places and running through injury. We’ve been through a lot of injuries and I continue to learn a lot from Mark Cox.
